Exchangeability-based hypothesis testing: under the null of no group effect, the labels are exchangeable, so the distribution of any test statistic under random relabeling gives an exact null reference. Exact for small samples, approximated by Monte Carlo for large samples, and valid without Normality assumptions when exchangeability holds.
